Introduction to Metal Finishing with Peter from Mobile Car Restoration.

This one-day, hands-on class introduces the essential skills and tools of traditional automotive metal finishing.

Designed for beginners and DIY restorers, it provides a practical foundation for repairing and restoring metal panels correctly, without relying on excessive filler.

You’ll learn how to assess damaged panels, identify dents, warping, and stretched metal, and plan an effective repair approach. Including tips and tricks for correct use of dent removal machines. 

The class covers techniques that can comfortably be incorporated into the home workshop. We focus on refining the panel using hammers, dollies, and cost effective equipment to smooth and tune the surface, preparing it for high-quality finishing and paintwork.

By the end of the day, you’ll have a clear understanding of core metal finishing principles and the confidence to apply them to your own restoration projects.

Meet our expert: Peter Seymour –   Metal Finishing Craftsman

With over 37 years in the automotive industry and 32 years specialising in metal shaping, file finishing, and lead wiping, Peter is a true expert in panel restoration. A dual-trade professional in both motor mechanics and panel beating, he’s worked in specialist workshops, taught at TAFE in Canberra, and restored concours-level vehicles.

Through his business, Mobile Car Restorations, Peter now runs a private workshop where he works closely with select clients to build dream cars with precision and passion. Renowned for his ability to save panels and deliver show-quality results, Peter brings unmatched craftsmanship and depth of experience to every project.

Please bring your PPE, hammers and dollies will be avaialble to use on the day but if you have your favourite tools you are more than welcome to bring them along.
